We find in Mark 1:14-15, Mark 4:23-24, and Luke 8:1 the gospel or the good news that Jesus proclaimed was about the kingdom of God. In Luke 9:1-2,59-60, and Luke 10:1, 9-11 he calls his disciples and followers to declare this gospel also.
His disciples did just that in:
Acts 8:12, Acts 19:8, Acts 20:25, Acts 28:23, Acts 28:30-31
In Luke 4:16-21 we see Jesus at the beginning of his ministry…
“ And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”
Isa 61:1-3 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
This is the good news… that Christ has come and is called to set things straight, make things right. Bring healing to those that need it, bring people out of bondage, give something of worth to those that have nothing, show awesome wonders to those that can’t see, comfort those that mourn, proclaim a time of forgiveness(to be acceptable). Where there is lack, he will fill it.”
Jesus shows us also in the in Matt 5:3-8:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”
This is the whole purpose for which he came…. to preach the kingdom of God. Otherwise our gospel message is incomplete without preaching it. Acts 20:25-27 We must preach the whole counsel of God.
Act 20:25-27 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more. 26 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. 27For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
