Can we pick and choose what scriptures we will obey? And claim they are just for those whom Jesus and apostles were talking to in the 1st century?

1Co 1:1-3 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, 2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: 3 Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

(example in this epistle: chapter 11 on the headship of God to man and how we are to physically live that out in our marriages, and in relation to headcoverings; men over the ages and even today obey and take their hats off when they pray or enter into a “religious establishment”, why don’t women obey this scripture anymore?) continued

Colossians 3:10-17  And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;  Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

How much more should we as children of God accept others who walk in Christ, based on eternal standards and not on the outside appearance, race, age,  place of origin, or financial status. God is not a respecter of persons and neither should we be. For He chooses where we are born and when we are born.

Act 17:26  And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation

When we find it hard to like someone, but we know they are Christ’s, then we remember how He is merciful, kind, esteeming others more highly, and patient.  We should recognize we are called of God to follow His lead.  Love of course is His perfect law when it comes to relating to others, especially if we claim to know God Mark 12:30-31, 1Cor 13:1-13 We should be thankful for the circumstances and the people He has put in our live; for they are for our eternal training to prepare us to reign with Him in his kingdom

1 Cor 4:5-8, 2Ti 2:12, Rev 5:9-10, Rev 20:6, Rev 22:5

Scripture of Note: Luke 10:25-37 The Good Samaritan

Below is the oath that one has to take to join in the United States military. Can a true believer  and follower of Jesus Christ rightly take this oath?

I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and  fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have  heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of  the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true  faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when  required by law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United  States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian  direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental  reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God. In acknowledgement whereof I have  hereunto affixed my signature.

When a person takes this oath above, he is denying any allegiance to anyone or anything other  than the U. S. That includes our God, our Lord Jesus Christ(who is Prince, King and Potentate,  and sovereign above all) Going into the military, a person promises to have faith in U. S. and to  take up arms for it. God is the only one in whom we are to have faith/trust, not in man.

1Ti 6:12-15  Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called,  and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.  13  I give thee charge in the  sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate  witnessed a good confession;  14  That thou keep this commandment without spot,  unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:  15  Which in his times he shall  shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords

In Exodus 23:32-33 the Lord speaks to Israel of them not taking any covenants with the rest of  the world in which they live and why. Because their hearts will be turned away from God to  idols. And that is exactly what happened according to scripture throughout the Old Testament.

It is written  in 2 Cor 6:14-17 that we are not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers  and why we are not, “for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what  communion hath light with darkness?” And then exhorts us to, “Come out from among them,  and be ye separate, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you….”

Jesus said in Matthew 5:33-37, Ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time,  Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: But I say unto you,  Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool:  neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head,  because thou canst not make one hair white or black. But let your communication be, Yea, yea;  Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.”

Every idle word that men speak, they will have to give an account of in the day of judgment  (Matthew 12:36-37)If we make an allegiance with the world(government or otherwise)then “Know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a  friend of the world is the enemy of God.” (James 4:4)

Mat 5:43-48  Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate  thine enemy.  44  But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to  them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;  45  That  ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the  evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.  46  For if ye love them  which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?  47  And if ye  salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?  48  Be  ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

There is no peace found in the Emergent movement that has pervaded those that consider themselves the people of God.  No one who follows that path agrees, on Truth, that is. They are still in unbelief, for if they believed, they would be at peace(2Cor13:11) and free from that internal striving in their hearts to grasp for something meaningful, but are never able to attain.

Joh 8:25-32  Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.  26  I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.  27  They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.  28  Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.  29  And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.  30  As he spake these words, many believed on him.  31  Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;  32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Is it okay, to accept that everyone has their own belief in who God is? Should each of us as individuals continue on as if “I’m okay” “Your okay” “We are all okay” , “What is important is Love, and doing good” “I’ll let you be who you want to be as long as, you let me be who I want to be”

The apostles of Christ, who were taught by Jesus himself, think otherwise:

1Co 1:10-11 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

Rom 12:16  Be of the same one mind toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

Rom 15:6  That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2Co 13:11  Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

Php 2:2  Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, and one mind.

Php 3:14-16 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. 16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

1Pe 3:8  Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous

We have one Head(mind) in the Body of Christ, Jesus himself; and the Body has to cooperate with that Head or you have chaos…

Do you have no peace with God or man? Repent and Believe the gospel. There is only One Way, One Truth, and One Life…Jesus is the One…
